With countless animals on the verge of extinction and an endangered species list that is longer than ever, there are still some places on Earth where humans can coexist peacefully with those magnificent creatures. Respect, trust, and care form a special bond. And whenever a helpless animal is in distress, people are aware that they must assist it. It’s also the story of this baby giraffe who was rescued from drowning in Kenya.
A baby giraffe became stranded in the middle of Kenya’s Uaso Nyiro River for unknown reasons. And if the strong currents weren’t enough of a challenge for the helpless creature, this raging river is teeming with crocodiles. As a result, the little one’s fate appeared to be sealed. Nonetheless, assistance came from an unexpected source.
When a group of wildlife rangers and locals heard the terrified giraffe, they rushed to her aid. The animal was saved after a few hours thanks to the bravery and kindness of these two men. Fortunately, one of these nice people shared some photos of the rescue online, allowing people to express their gratitude.
“Marvelous rescue mission, congrats great friend of samburu wildlife Mr Baba Sue and team,” a user wrote. While another added: “Wow! What a show of courage and passion for wildlife – our precious heritage.”
Some giraffe species have recently been declared endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The Masai giraffe is one of them. They are a subspecies that roams the lands of Kenya and Tanzania, and their numbers have plummeted in the last three decades, with only 35,000 left in the wild.
